In August 2021, the 2D-X-ray scanner Golden Eye 702 was replaced by the new-generation 3D X-ray scanner Golden Eye 706 at the Wismar plant in the gouging unit 1.

The €1.6 million upgrade was carried out as part of a project to upgrade the machine’s lumber sorting systems planned for October 2020.

GoldenEye are scanning systems manufactured by the Microtec, Austro-Italian company, and capable of operating with the three most advanced technologies: laser scanning, color camera imaging and dominant X-ray scanning. The scanner makes it possible to determine the quality, precise geometry and strength of the lumber, which is particularly important for stress grading.

The new scanning system also makes it possible to mark individual boards for later tracking in the system. The digitized images are stored in the system’s memory for 6 months.

The installation of the new 3D X-Ray scanner will guarantee the quality of the sorting of manufactured products, which is particularly important for deliveries to the US, UK, Korean and Australian markets.

Ilim Nordic Timber (Wismar, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), with a capacity of 1 million 200,000 m3 of lumber per year, is the backbone of the timber cluster in Wismar. The number of employees is 462.
